The wail of multiple sirens crashed through an otherwise idyllic summer afternoon in Barnegat Light and Long Beach Township on June 23, drowning out the rumble of vehicles and voices carried by the wind to become part of the Island’s summer soundtrack.
“With that sound comes recognition,” said Don Schule, treasurer of the Surf City Volunteer Fire Co. and EMS and a member of its water rescue team.
