The SandPaper is the newsmagazine of Long Beach Island and Southern Ocean County, published every Wednesday. To place a display or retail ad, contact our Advertising Department at (609) 494-5900 or andrea@thesandpaper.net — we’ll help you choose the right size and rate. The guidelines below cover deadlines, ad sizes, mechanical requirements, and how to prepare and submit your files.
Deadlines
- The deadline for display advertising is 5 p.m. the Monday preceding the publication date.
- Proofs are available for ad copy received by the Friday immediately preceding the Wednesday publication date.

Modular ad sizes
- 1/4 page — 2 col. (4.8″) × 6.3″, or 3 col. (7.3″) × 4.3″

- 1/2 page — 2 col. (4.8″) × 13″, 3 col. (7.3″) × 8.3″, or 4 col. (9.8″) × 6.3″
- 3/4 page — 3 col. (7.3″) × 13″
- Full page — 4 col. (9.8″) × 13″
Mechanical Requirements
The SandPaper is tabloid-size. Each page has four 14-pica advertising columns, measures 59 picas wide by 13 inches high, and has a one-pica gutter between columns.
- Ads are sold by the column inch; the minimum ad size is two column inches.
- Ads with a depth exceeding 11 inches are charged for 13 inches.
- There are no extra charges for normal ad production, including typesetting and graphics.
- Retail advertising rates are net.
SAU sizes. We accept the industry SAU sizes up to five columns wide and 13 inches deep. Small size changes may be advisable to fit some SAU sizes to The SandPaper’s column widths; consult a sales representative to determine which SAUs work best.
Depth & Pica Conversion
We take one pica off depth measurements to ensure spacing between individual ads (6 picas = 1″). Exception: on a full-depth 13″ ad, no pica is taken off.

Submitting Your Ad
Email finished ads to production@thesandpaper.net. Please:
- Specify which publication the ad is for and its run date.
- Include the advertiser’s name in the file name of any attachment.
For best results, send a print-ready PDF with all fonts embedded. We also accept the file formats below.
File Preparation
Accepted software: Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe InDesign CC, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Adobe Illustrator CC
- Convert all type to outlines.
- Color art: convert to CMYK. Black & white art: convert to Grayscale.
- Name the file with the PC extension (.eps) — for example, restaurant.eps or store.tif.
- Save as an Illustrator EPS. Compatibility: CC or lower. Options: Include Document Thumbnails. Preview: 8-Bit IBM PC.
- Any linked photos or artwork must accompany the Illustrator file, and must also be CMYK if the ad is color. (If the art is from Photoshop, see below.)
Note: if an Illustrator file is “read only,” we will not be able to make any changes to it.
Adobe Photoshop CC
- Accepted formats: PSD, TIF, JPEG, or EPS.
- Black & white photos: 300 d.p.i., Grayscale mode.
- Color photos: 300 d.p.i., CMYK mode.
- Line art: 1200 d.p.i.
- Name the file with the PC extension (.tif, .jpeg, or .eps) — for example, photo.tif or art.eps.
- Save as a Photoshop TIF or EPS. TIF options: IBM PC (No LZW Compression). EPS options: TIF (8 bits/pixel), Encoding — ASCII.
- Do not include: Halftone Screen, Transfer Function, or PostScript Color Management.
Adobe InDesign CC
Any linked photos, artwork, and fonts (screen & printer fonts) for the document must accompany the InDesign file.
Adobe Acrobat Pro (PDF)
- Black & white ads: all artwork must be grayscale and fonts must be embedded.
- Color ads: all artwork must be CMYK and fonts must be embedded.
Classified Advertising
Classified prices are based on the first 20 words, and every classified ad appears in print and online at thesandpaper.net/classifieds.
