To the Editor:

I’m very excited to be celebrating America’s 250th birthday next year. With that said, I keep seeing ads with “We The People” printed on semiquincentennial merchandise. “We The People” is from the U.S. Constitution, which was approved by the framers in 1787 and officially went into effect in 1788 when the ninth state, New Hampshire, ratified it.

What we celebrate next year is our July 4, 1776 declaration of our independence from Britain.
