This is the second in a series.

Memorial Day weekend 1924 saw the repaired USS Shenandoah make its first public appearance since it had been torn from its mooring mast during a violent nor’easter in January. Witnessed by over 100,000 people, its flight had caused Ocean County’s largest traffic jam as some spectators could not get to within 5 miles of the massive Lakehurst hangar.

The summer of 1924 would be filled with flights that the nation would follow with keen interest.
