One hundred years ago this month the four-masted schooner Estelle Krieger grounded off Ship Bottom, N.J. Although it is not remembered as one of the most famous Long Beach Island nautical stories, research into its background and the fate of the schooner have turned up several interesting revelations.

The schooner was originally launched in 1899 as the Mary T. Quinby, but after 11 years it was sold and renamed the Estelle Krieger.
