Spirit Airlines announced it was seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, Nov. 18.
That move had been predicted months ago by many airline analysts. After all, the company hadn’t posted a profit since 2019. It lost $142.6 million in the first quarter of 2024. Spirit had a net loss of approximately $554 million in 2022; in 2023 it lost just under $450 million. The company’s stock had reached an all-time-high closing price of $76.32 on Dec. 8, 2014. As of 12:40 p.m.
