As a surfer on the Jersey Shore for over 50 years and a frequent visitor to LBI, I have a lot of experience with the beach/wind dynamics, so let me share.
We all know that west winds bring the flies onto the beach. But one must take into account the sea breeze, which is a very local phenomenon that can negate the synoptic west (offshore) wind called for in the larger regional forecast. The sea breeze can significantly lessen the fly impact and temperatures.
