Thank you, Stephane Reback, for the best commentary The SandPaper has focused on (“Critical Message for Parents From Lifeguards and Children,” 7/12).

My mother never took her eyes off my sister or me at a pool or on the Ship Bottom shore. As a 10-year-old, I dove off a diving board at a pool near home at the same time a 10-year-old boy dove from the side of the pool. The lifeguard was watching the bathers at the shallow end of pool. Only my mother witnessed the collision underwater.
