To the Editor:
I can’t help but keep thinking about the young man who drowned in Beach Haven over Labor Day weekend. Such a tragedy! As the grandfather of seven, all of whom love the ocean, it is a challenge watching them, even as they swim near the lifeguards. I am very thankful for the guards we have here on LBI – they do a fantastic job and are expert at their craft. The plain truth, however, is that we don’t have enough of them.
This was very evident as we got to mid-August and we had no coverage at our beach near 72nd Street.
