Despite a 24th-place finish during Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. advanced to the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff’s Round of 12.
Truex started in the third position at Bristol, but the No. 19 Toyota from Joe Gibbs Racing completed only 496 of the 500 laps – a collision with JGR teammate Denny Hamlin, who rear-ended Truex, forced them off the track for repairs – tallying just 13 points for the race.
