Somebody, at some point in the past, may have swum across the bay, from the mainland to Long Beach Island or vice versa, but Tony Nitti didn’t know about it. So, he asked around.
“I asked my older brother Mike, who was a lifeguard here for 20 years, and he didn’t know of anybody who’s done it. I started asking more old-time guards, and the answer was the same,” Nitti said. “I don’t know of anybody who’s done it. I imagine somebody has done it, but we don’t know.
