I am a true native of Surf City. Although my mother delivered me at the nearest hospital, in Lakewood, in 1953, I hit the beach crawling at six months that summer and every summer thereafter.

My family had moved to Surf City in 1952. My father’s parents had a summer home across the street from us that they moved to permanently. My mother’s uncle had a home behind us.
