While September is usually warm enough to enjoy the beach, only a handful of beaches on Long Beach Island will have lifeguards following Labor Day weekend.

In Barnegat Light, the beach patrol “will staff a small number of beaches following Labor Day,” said Beach Patrol Capt. John Schulze. Councilwoman Dottie Reynolds, chair of the beach committee, said the weekend after Labor Day at most, 9th, 22nd, 25th and 30th are the beach streets that may have guards.
