To the Editor:
I am writing to bring attention to an unusual and concerning incident that occurred on our beloved Long Beach Island beaches on Aug. 24. Long before the lifeguards arrived, residents and visitors were met with the distressing sight of hundreds of dead bunker fish washing ashore. The sheer volume of these fish not only marred the beauty of our coastline but also brought with it an overpowering and unpleasant odor that permeated the air.
Such occurrences, while rare, can be attributed to various environmental factors.
