Early last week, New Jersey weather forecasters were keeping a close eye on Hurricane Debby.

The storm slammed into Florida on Aug. 5 as a Category 1 hurricane, dropping between 20 and 30 inches of rainfall in some spots, creating catastrophic flash flooding. After it left Florida it was downgraded to a tropical storm, and as it ventured farther north it was reduced to a tropical depression.
