On the second floor of the New Jersey Maritime Museum in Beach Haven is a special exhibit about the Andrea Doria. Now the exhibit is undergoing expansion to include a life jacket worn by Alfonso Caliendo, a North Jersey man who survived the shipwreck.

Caliendo recently donated the jacket to the museum, and museum founder/president Deborah C. Whitcraft and trustee Jennifer Silletti drove to his Sussex County home to pick up the orange-colored lifesaving gear.

It is inscribed with the Italian words “Italia Societa di Navigazione,” the name of the passenger ship line.
