Little Egg Harbor — Pinelands Regional High School ninth-grader Zinnia Moon, a singer, songwriter, ukulele player and pianist, has advanced to the grand finale in a music contest called Musicash, an online show that gives talented individuals the chance to reach their dreams and win big. This week she placed second out of 12 finalists by public voting. On Nov. 16, she will perform one of her (as-yet-untitled) original songs in the live grand finale of Musicash season one, to take place at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

To enter, Moon submitted a video of herself performing; she then promoted herself through social media to gain votes. Each of the six elimination rounds produced two winners: the person with the most votes, and the “golden coin” winner, chosen by judges and producers. In August, she was notified of her selection as a golden coin winner, and off she went to LA.

“I’m super excited for this opportunity and thankful for all the support from the community,” she said. “It was stressful and nerve-wracking at times, but it was definitely worth it. Without all the support and help from everyone, I wouldn’t have ended up where I did.”

All 12 competitors are invited to the Musicash live season one grand finale, where the six finalists will perform one song each, and the winner will be chosen by the expert judges and the live audience that votes online.

“Winning the contest would be incredible and I would be so happy, although winning is not the most important to me,” Moon said. “The experience of this is what is most important and super exciting. Coming in second would be amazing as well, but I am shooting for first.”

The grand finale prizes include the title of Musicash Star, a Musicash trophy and at least $40,000. —V.F.
