Wonderful Success

Nov 06, 2019

To the Editor:

On Oct. 25-27, the Sea Shell Resort & Beach Club hosted its 23th annual Striped Bass Derby. It was a wonderful success involving 76 boats and 267 fishermen.

The derby was won by Ryan Schramm fishing on the Mud Duck, along with his crew: Sean Oler, Zack Michot and Paul Doran. The winning fish weighed a whopping 44.9 pounds. The derby raised $50,000 for Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association’s Junior Anglers Program to rebuild the artificial reefs around LBI. The fishermen weighed 69 stripers that were enjoyed by over 500 people at Sunday’s family fish fry.

I want to take this opportunity to thank those people who put forth tremendous effort to bring this wonderful event to the people of Long Beach Island and Southern Ocean County. To the staff of the Sea Shell, our Derby Committee and our generous sponsors, thank you all.

Finally, thanks to the striper fishermen and their families who continue to support this great event with their time, money and enthusiasm. See you all next year for the 24th annual derby.
