Barnegat Light — It’s a friendly twist on the usual dog show. It’s not about competition as much as it is about fun and community.

Every year in mid-August, Wildflowers by the Lighthouse hosts a dog show. This year it’s on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in the evening hours (for dog comfort) and at a new location: the new Bay Breeze Park Pavilion located between Sixth and Seventh streets at the bay in Barnegat Light. Registration starts at 4 p.m.

This new venue offers shade for spectators who will watch a new “Parade of Pooches” before the traditional competitions for best costume, tricks, best dog kiss and and more with lots of prizes and gift baskets to win. And, of course, there will be doggy snacks for all participants. It’s a little piece of LBI heaven for dog lovers.

Cricket Luker, Wildflowers’ owner and the founder of all this fun, says this year will be the event’s 18th, a track record she is proud of.

The event is a benefit for the nonprofit Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter. For more information or to volunteer, call Wildflowers at 609-361-8191.  —P.J.
