Weapon, Drugs Found After Motor Vehicle Stop

A West Creek man faces numerous charges after being pulled over for reckless driving in Barnegat Township on March 10.

Police Chief Keith Germain said that at 6 p.m., Patrolman Kyle Cranmer stopped Tom Ruiz 2nd, 44, of West Creek, near the intersection of Route 72 and Route 539.

Germain said that during the stop, Cranmer developed evidence that led to the search of the vehicle and the recovery of a loaded Springfield XD 9mm handgun that was located in the center console of the vehicle. The patrolman additionally recovered a quantity of marijuana and THC oil.

Ruiz was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow-point ammunition, tampering with evidence, possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued traffic summonses for reckless driving and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. Ruiz was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.  —E.E.
