Wakeup Call?

To the Editor:

Don’t you just love politicians who ignore problems that affect their constitutes until it’s re-election time or the problem affects them personally?

Case in question (“Menendez Bill a Crackdown on Robocalls,” 4/17): “U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez’s April 12 news conference ... was briefly interrupted when the senator received a robocall on his cell phone asking about his vehicle’s factory warranty. Despite a federal Do Not Call Registry, telemarketers and phone scammers continue to scoff at the law” to the tune of “5.2 billion illegal calls nationwide in March alone.”

Menendez stated, “It’s happened to all of us. It happens to me. What we need are tougher laws to go after the scam artists ...”

This may come as earth-shattering news to Mr. Menendez, but he is the one who is in the lawmaking business.
