Surf City — Once you visit Five 0 Six Boutique, you’ll never forget the high-quality merchandise or how to get there. That’s right, the name of the Surf City boutique is its precise location on Long Beach Boulevard. If you’re looking for the latest trends in women’s apparel, Five 0 Six has you covered with styles inspired by the beautiful atmosphere of Long Beach Island.

Owner Sarah Jordan officially opened Five 0 Six Boutique in 2016 over Memorial Day weekend. She’s the granddaughter of Vince and Michele Farias, owners of the iconic surf and beach shop Farias, and this summer marks a special milestone with the store’s 50th year in business on LBI.

During her high school years, Jordan became accustomed to working in the store every summer to help her mother, uncle and grandparents. Through her day-to-day tasks, she developed a love for fashion and surfing (though she admits she’s not the best at catching waves). When she was a senior in high school, she took control of the buying for the women’s apparel for Farias, and continued those responsibilities throughout her college years. She attended trade shows all over the country to determine the hottest trends for each season.

By the time she graduated from college, Jordan knew she wanted to work in the fashion industry, but wasn’t sure how she would make her dreams come true. She thought about pursuing a career with surf or skate companies such as Roxy or Billabong, but then decided to open her own surf boutique, specifically for women.

“My mom and grandma help me buy for the shop, and usually customers tend to think it’s a juniors store for people in their 20s, but that’s not the case,” Jordan said. “We carry clothes for women of all ages, and it’s all still really fashionable.”

From on-trend apparel to performance swimwear plus unique accessories and décor, Five 0 Six has a little bit of everything. You’ll find such popular brands as Tommy Bahama, Stone Fox Swim, Carve Designs, Amuse Society, O’Neill, Rhythm and Citrine Swim.

“A lot of my brands aren’t sold anywhere else on the Island, and they’re different from what you would typically find in New Jersey,” she said. “In terms of my clothing, it’s a really big mix that changes every year. If I don’t like certain stuff from a brand every year, I’ll look elsewhere to fill that void. I don’t just buy the brands just to have the brands. I buy into the style.”

Jordan gave us an inside look at the top trends so far this summer.

Must-Have Mustard. The great thing about mustard is the fact it goes with just about everything. It can be layered on top or incorporated into a design. We’re not talking about condiments here, people. More like one of summer 2019’s hottest colors.

“It’s definitely the color of the summer. We have a ton of stuff, from mustard prints to solid-colored items. People love it because it’s more of a mellow yellow,” Jordan said.

Meet your new favorite flavor!

Keep Calm and Smock On. Attention: Smocking has made a comeback! Smocked tube tops and dresses are all the rage this year. The elasticized, pleated fabric is comfortable and doesn’t require a lot of maintenance. Five 0 Six has plenty of adorable designs in stock.

The bunched bodice adds some control and support for the bust, so you might be able to rock the look without a bra. Dream come true!

Check This Out. The number one print to check off your list this summer? Gingham. The cute checkered design is a trend that has carried over from last year, and we’re happy to see it again.

“We have gingham prints in black, pink and other colors. Everyone has been loving it,” Jordan said.

When it comes to gingham, more is more. A matching printed top and bottom is always encouraged. When in doubt, wear gingham for all of your summer activities.

Next-Level Sandals. Platform slides and sandals are here to take your footwear to new heights. Because the sole of the shoe is flat and level from the front to the back, you can easily gain a few inches without any discomfort.

“Platforms are easy to wear in the summertime and on Long Beach Island, as well. No one wants to wear heels around here. They just want to be comfortable.”

Stock up on these need-now trends (summer is not over yet!). Five 0 Six Boutique remains open until the New Year, so be sure to stop in and find some gems to add to your wardrobe. Shop anytime at
