Manahawkin — Kicking off a new business can be a bit challenging, but for Stafford Tire & Auto, it’s on a roll.

Owner Dan Arnold has years of experience, having owned Dan’s Garden Auto Techs on LBI until April of this year, when he decided to make the jump to the mainland.

“The opportunity to move my shop to a place that didn’t flood with every rain storm was too good to pass up,” he said. “Luckily, many of my customers have followed me.”

Stafford Tire & Auto is located at 817 North Main St. (Route 9) at the former SBR Tire location.

The shop and waiting area have been revamped, with new equipment brought in. The new, comfortable and colorful waiting area has fresh coffee and plush seating as well as a real working phone booth to hold private conversations – perfect for taking a business or personal call while waiting on an oil change or tire fix.

Arnold says he aims to avoid the pitfalls of the repair business. “So many shops take on too much and try to be everything to everyone; I just want this to be a neighborhood shop were you can get what you need without hassles, and hopefully have a great experience doing it. ”

One of the keys to that great experience is using quality parts and products. Stafford Tire and Auto has become a Continental Gold Dealer and a Napa Car Care Center to ensure that customers get the best parts and best prices available. For instance, right now Continental is offering up to a $70 rebate on certain tire purchases. More details can be found on the website

“Being a local, I just want to do the best for friends, neighbors, and community,” Arnold said.

“It’s really simple: I want to be the place your dad would have gone to and who you would want your kids to go to. You know, a good old-fashioned repair place you can trust.”

To that end, Arnold is honoring the free tire rotation with purchase offers that the now-defunct SBR Tire had offered to its customers.

“I don’t have to honor their offers, but it’s the right thing to do. People purchased their tires expecting to be able to return and with SBR shutting down so quickly, I feel it’s just what I need to do even if I didn’t make the promises. It’s what you do for your community,” he said.
