A 39-year-old Pennsylvania resident has been charged with the recent robberies of the Wells Fargo Bank in Stafford Township and the M&T Bank in Barnegat Township. The Wells Fargo incident occurred on March 16 while the Barnegat robbery took place March 29, according to authorities.

Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germain said that on April 14 at 3 p.m., members of the Barnegat Police Crime Reduction Unit along with members of the Nassau County Police Department Bureau of Special Operations and Nassau County Robbery Squad in New York arrested Kim Quoc Nguyen for robbery, terroristic threats and theft in connection with the holdup. Nguyen was taken into custody in New Hyde Park, N.Y., after a short foot pursuit.

Germain said Nguyen was identified as the suspect on April 2 after an exhaustive investigation by Barnegat Police Detective James Purcell, Detective William Hetrick and the crime reduction unit. At that time, an extradition warrant was issued, but location was not known.

Germain said the search for Nguyen and continuing investigation over the next two weeks took Barnegat officers to several different areas including southern New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York City.

Further investigation by Barnegat officers resulted in a vehicle connected to Nguyen being located in Queens, N.Y. The subsequent investigation and surveillance led to Nguyen’s discovery and arrest.

Nguyen is currently being held in the Nassau County Correctional Center pending extradition.

Germain lauded the outstanding police work and cooperation that led to Nguyen’s arrest.

“This is precisely the kind of collaboration and teamwork we strive for in law enforcement,” he said. “More than a dozen federal, state, county and local agencies from three states worked together and leveraged their individual knowledge and expertise to safely bring this subject into custody.”  —E.E.
