Spectacular Displays

Sep 18, 2019

To the Editor:

At the NJ Maritime Museum’s annual fundraiser (also noise raiser and spirit raiser), I took a break from the food, music and carousing to explore new installations since the last time I was there.

Especially of interest was a display of English Staffordshire from the 1827 wreck of the Aurora, salvaged off Sandy Hook over several years after its 2002 discovery. The amazing condition makes it hard to believe that it was under water for 175 years.

There are so many spectacular displays here, and the museum offers more maritime history and artifacts than anywhere else in the state. If there are any Islanders reading this who haven’t been there, shame on you.
