Stafford Township — Each year, one particular night on the Southern Regional High School calendar exemplifies the overarching excellence of the senior class as well as the overwhelming support from the communities that surround the school district.

On May 30, 302 soon-to-be Southern graduates received 1,149 scholarships from 343 donor organizations or individuals, as the district celebrated during Scholarship Night. The total dollar amount of those scholarships was $620,205.

“The total amount presented to members of the Class of 2019 is the largest in our scholarship program’s storied history,” said Southern Superintendent Craig Henry. “These numbers illustrate how generous our local community members, business owners and service organizations are and the high degree of faith and confidence they have in the academic and co-curricular programs of Southern. The students are extremely grateful for this support and fully recognize how fortunate they are to live in this community and share in the Southern experience.”

Henry opened the awards ceremony by expressing thanks to the community for its exceptional support for Southern Regional and was followed by the presentation of the Military Academy appointments. Along with Peter J. Rossi, chairman of the Southern Regional Education Association, Richard Staradub presented the Merchant Marine Academy Award to Thomas Green, while Charlene Delanoy presented the Coast Guard Academy Award to Jacqueline Ward.  —D.B.
