Southern Regional Sports Camps Offer Instruction All Summer Long

Stafford Township — Each summer, Southern Regional High School athletic coaches provide opportunities for youngsters to hone their skills in a variety of sports – from baseball, football and lacrosse to softball, field hockey and soccer, and many more.

Focused on enhancing each athlete’s fundamentals in a positive, encouraging environment, the Southern sports camps are open to boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Campers are expected to bring water or snacks, bug repellent and sunscreen for outdoors, and they should wear appropriate, loose-fitting and light clothing.

One of the more prominent and extensive camps for the summer lineup includes Eric Fierro’s basketball camp, held in the 9/10 gymnasium inside the Manahawkin high school. In addition to Southern coaches John Pampalone, Joe Nagy and Brandon Snyder, current varsity players and several alumni also join in on the instruction. Visit to register.

The opening boys hoops camp is scheduled for June 24-27 with the following times and cost per grade level: pre-K and kindergarten, 1 to 1:45 p.m., $60 per camper; 1st to 3rd grade, 2 to 3 p.m., $80 per camper; 4th-6th grade, 3 to 4:30 p.m., $80 per camper; and 7th-9th grade, 4:30 to 6 p.m., $100 per camper. Another camp for the same grade levels, at the same prices and times, will be held July 29-Aug. 1. Also, a Monday night training camp for players in 7th through 9th grades is available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 1-22 for $100 per player.

Tom Bucci’s girls basketball camp will be in the Southern Regional Middle School gym July 15-18, at the following dates, times and costs: July 15-18 and July 29-Aug. 1, 3rd-6th grade, 10:30 a.m. to noon, $75; as well as July 22-25 and Aug. 5-8, 7th-9th grade, 10:30 a.m. to noon, $75. Scott Baker’s distance runners’ camp for boys and girls in grades 8-12 is scheduled at the high school stadium track for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from June 24 to Aug. 12 for $40 per camper. Jason Church’s “Jump Nation” pole vaulting camp is slated for Mondays and Thursdays at the high school stadium field from 6 to 8 p.m., July 8 through Aug. 5, and is open to boys and girls in grades 9-12 for $20 per session. Church’s “Jump Nation” camp for high jump (4 to 6 p.m.) and long/triple jump (6 to 8 p.m.) is set for Wednesday from July 10 through Aug. 7, and open to boys and girls in grades 9-12 for $20 per session. Keith Cocuzza’s baseball camp is open to players in grades 2-9 and will be held Aug. 12-15 from 5 to 7 p.m. for $80 per camper – contact for more info –  while Jenna Lombardo’s field hockey camp (, open to girls in grades 1-7, is scheduled for the middle school hockey field on July 22-25, from 9 to 11 a.m., for $85 per camper, and Evan Brosniak’s tennis camp (, available to boys and girls in grades 3-12, is set for July 8-11, from 9 to 11 a.m., at $95 per player.

Also in July, Lori Johnson’s girls lacrosse camp, open to players in grades 2-9, is scheduled for July 15-18, from 9 a.m. to noon, for $100 per player – contact for more info. Chuck Donohue’s 19th annual Southern Youth Football Camp, open to players in grades 1-8, is slated for July 15-17, from 6 to 8 p.m., at $50 per player, while the high school camp for players in grades 9-12 is set for July 9-10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., for $50 per player. If soccer’s your game, Matt Moore’s boys soccer camp, open to boys and girls in grades 3-8 for $95 per player, is scheduled for Aug. 5-8 from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Boys and girls in grades 3-8 also can participate in the goalkeeping camp on Mondays from July 8-29, from 6 to 7:15 p.m., for $95 per player.
