Opportunities to create and sustain small business success in Southern Ocean County were the mission of board members of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce when they met with Congressman Andy Kim Feb. 21. Kim (D-N.J.-3rd) has been named chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee.

The chamber sent a delegation to welcome him and introduce his staff to the programs and mission of the 105-year old business organization. Board member Jerry Thompson, of the Van Dyk Group and Lori Pepenella, chamber CEO, met with Kim and District Director Ben Giovine at their Marlton office.

“The Southern Ocean chamber arranged the meeting to discuss the importance of the H2B visa program on seasonally structured businesses, incentives that can be offered to create business or expand them, as well as present ongoing chamber programming and Destination Marketing Organization efforts,” Pepenella said.

Elaborating on the chamber’s dialogue regarding the H2B visa program and the current limitations on bringing foreign nationals to fill temporary nonagricultural jobs, Pepenella said the chamber supported “the ability to hire, but more importantly bring back seasonal labor.”

The chamber works with local, county, state and federal officials to best represent the interests of the business community and consumers.
