Soroptimist Club Hosts Career Workshop for Female Teens

Stafford Township — The Soroptimist International of LBI will host a free career workshop called “Dream It, Be It” for ninth and tenth grade girls at the Learning Experience in Manahawkin on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Many girls face barriers on the pathway to achieving their dreams, event organizers explained. “Dream It, Be It” empowers girls to overcome their obstacles, set goals and head toward success. The workshop will cover career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, balancing stresses and moving forward after setbacks.

“By reaching girls while they are still young, we not only help them stay healthy and safe in the short term, but we can reduce the number of women in crisis in the future,” according to the organization. “Putting them on a path will help them realize their dreams.”

The event includes a light breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks throughout the day. Soroptimist members will be involved. Each workshop is a hands-on experience in a small setting of four to five girls, led by a Soroptimist table facilitator and a main facilitator. Parental and media consent forms must be sent in ahead of time.

LBI chapter Co-president Kathy Picarello said three local high schools have been notified through their guidance departments and principals, in addition to other area organizations.

To register, contact Mary O’Meara at omearar@msn.com. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Oct. 16. Spaces will be limited.  —V.F.
