Shellfish Restoration Talk at Two Library Branches

Sep 11, 2019

On Friday, Sept. 20, a program titled “Shellfish Restoration and Responsible Stewardship of Marine Resources” is scheduled at the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library at 10 a.m. and the Waretown branch at 2 p.m. Douglas Zemeckis of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County is the presenter.

This program was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The presentation is held in conjunction with the Water Ways Exhibit, running through Sept. 29 at the main library branch, in Toms River.

Zemecki said he will cover the basic ecology of Barnegat Bay and the status of the health of this ecosystem. The primary focus will be projects related to the extension service’s  Barnegat Bay Shellfish Restoration program, including its coastal stewardship course, shellfish restoration and education collaborations with ReClam the Bay, and expanding shell recycling programs that support shellfish restoration efforts.

To register, call the Stafford branch at 609-597-3381 or the Waretown branch at 609-693-5133. E.E.
