To the Editor:

This is the first cartoon in a series I am creating called “Seagull School,” where seagulls learn about humans, their summers and what happens on Long Beach Island. I’d love to hear ideas about what the seagulls should learn next from The SandPaper readers or the children in their lives.

The first cartoon features my twin boys eating Gerber Puffs on the beach, while students in Seagull School learn to steal their food. My family has a house in Beach Haven Crest, so I’ve spent summers here since I was a kid, and witnessed the theft of many food items by hungry seagulls, including crabs from a crab trap and raw chicken right off the grill! Now my boys can also experience food-snatching by seagulls.

I’m a cartoonist, a community college professor, a single mom by choice, and an LBI enthusiast. I have an MA in art history from Bryn Mawr College. Additionally, I learned about making comics at a cartooning workshop at The Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont, and about making art through many summers of art classes at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences. My daily single-panel cartoons about parenting appear @singlemomtwins on Instagram.

If readers have ideas for this series, I can be contacted through the message function of Instagram or at
