Barnegat Township — At a recent court of honor held at the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation in Barnegat Township,  Daniel Joseph Gnad of Barnegat Troop 26 received his Eagle badge. To earn this honor, he demonstrated his leadership ability by completing a project to benefit his community.  He set his sights on a Thanksgiving Dinner project feeding families served by the Barnegat Food Pantry. His project included planning, fundraising, shopping and supervising volunteers to prepare and serve the meals.

Daniel’s introduction to scouting came in 2009 when he started out as a Tiger Scout with Pack 35, and worked his way through Wolf, Bear and Webelos ranks to become Arrow of Light. He joined Boy Scout Troop 26 in 2014.

Gnad has participated in numerous events at the Citta reservation such as summer camps, Operation Halloweens, District Klondikes and District Webelos Woods. He has also attended several State Police Camporees at the Sea Girt National Guard Training Center in Spring Lake.

Since 2016, Gnad has been in the Brotherhood level of the Order of the Arrow, a fraternal community service organization within Boy Scouts. He accumulated hundreds of hours of community service. He went to Bechtel Summit, a new high adventure scout camp in West Virginia with the North East Scouting Contingent in July 2016. Daniel completed National Youth Leadership Training in 2017 and went on to complete the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience in 2018 at Philmont, a high adventure scout camp in the mountains of Cimarron, N.M.

He is a student at the Ocean County Vocational School for Performing Arts Academy in Lakehurst. Gnod’s hobbies include acting, camping, reading, teaching, volunteering and writing. —E.E.
