Score at the Shore Basketball Tournament Set to Begin Dec. 23

Stafford Township, NJ — The annual Score at the Shore basketball tournament is slated to begin Monday, Dec. 23, at Southern Regional High School, and it will continue during the days following Christmas, all leading up to boys’ and girls’ championships on Saturday, Dec. 28.

The boys’ tourney gets underway Monday with a quartet of first-round games at noon, 1:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. In the first game, top-seeded Lenape meets eighth-seeded Asbury Park, followed by fourth-seeded Howell taking on fifth-seeded Jackson Liberty. The third game features second-seeded Mainland against seventh-seeded Middle Township, and is followed by the nightcap – host and third-seeded Southern squaring off with sixth-seeded Colts Neck.

On Friday, Dec. 27, the first-round winners will meet at the tourney’s semifinals in the later games at 3:30 and 5:15 p.m., preceded by the first-round losers facing off in the early games at noon and 1:45 p.m. On Dec. 29, the seventh- and fifth-place consolation games are slated for noon and 1:45 p.m., and will be followed by the third-place contest at 3:30 p.m. and championship clash at 5:15 p.m.

The girls’ tourney also begins Monday, with first-round matchups slated for 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. In the first game, top-seeded Mainland meets eighth-seeded Pemberton, followed by the second game between fourth-seeded Lenape and fifth-seeded Southern. The third game features third-seeded Middle Township and sixth-seeded Northern Burlington, while second-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas meets seventh-seeded Egg Harbor Township in the last game of the afternoon.

On Thursday, Dec. 26, the first-round losers will meet in games at 10 and 11:45 a.m., with the first-round winners scheduled to meet at 1:30 and 3:15 p.m. The girls’ tournament concludes on Dec. 28, with the seventh- and fifth-place consolation games slated for 10 and 11:45 a.m., followed by the third-place game at 1:30 p.m. and the championship at 3:15 p.m.

All boys games will be played in the school’s 9/10 gymnasium, while all girls games will be in the 11/12 gymnasium. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for seniors and students. —D.B.
