School News: Filming, Fundraising and Filling Patient Needs

Sixteen Southern Regional High School students attended the Student Television Network Convention and Competition March 28-31 in Seattle. Over 3,000 students from around the world attended the convention. They gathered to learn and compete in timed contests over the three-day period.

The Southern team placed second in the Short Story contest, third in Social Media Story, and received an honorable mention in the highly coveted Music Video Contest.

Southern Regional Middle School David’s Dream and Believe Club spent April 8 putting together 35 chemo care bags for patients currently receiving treatment. Students and faculty donated various items for the bags, such as blankets, socks, tissues, notepads, activity books.

SRHS’s Class of 2021 will host its second annual Food Truck Festival Fundraiser on Saturday, May 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at the high school.

The cost of admission is $5, which includes access to the different food trucks, an ice cream truck, a variety of vendors, and live music. The entrance fee will also cover children’s activities including games and prizes, as well as emergency vehicles to explore, face painting, and a bounce house.

Bill Smith, 2018 Ocean County Teacher of the Year and N.J. State Teacher of the Year finalist, was appointed to the board of directors for the N.J. Council for the Social Studies.
