Santa’s Viking Christmas Village Open in Barnegat Light Nov. 30

Barnegat Light — It’s not the North Pole, but it is LBI’s closest thing. At the north end’s Viking Village on Saturday, Nov. 30, Santa comes out and sits for pictures with the kids, while historic shops and tents display gifts.

Santa’s Viking Christmas Village is a daylong artsy festivity with a backdrop of the commercial fishing dock at 19th Street and Bayview Avenue. Admission is free.

Over 40 local artists and quality crafters will be there from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – an opportunity to find special and seasonal gifts. A wreath sale is another annual touch.

“The shops in the shacks will be decorated for the holidays, and all the shops will be open,” added organizer Pam Larson, of Viking Shows. The shops are scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to at least 4 p.m.

“Our resident fisherman Santa will arrive by fire truck at 1 p.m.”

Bring your camera or use your phone to take your own pictures of the kids with Santa  – it’s planned that way, so there is no charge.

Live music by Matt Fisher sends out sounds of the season in the afternoon.

A s’mores pit outside How You Brewin? adds some more flavor, and to warm things up more, they’ll have a coffee bar open. Candy canes will be given out to the kids.

Off the Hook will be open for the day with a lunch menu.

Santa’s Viking Christmas Village has been an annual tradition for years, and it’s a real attraction.

“It’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the day after Black Friday, which is Small Business Saturday,” noted Larson, who owns The Seawife antiques and gift shop at Viking Village. “It’s amazing how many people are here. They celebrage down here at the shore, and some have come to see Grandma and Grandpa.”

It’s on for rain or shine, short of a bad snowstorm.

“We’ve been lucky in the last two years; we’ve had 60-degree weather,” Larson said. “But the crafters are prepared; they have little portable heaters that they put in their tent. If they can do it in Philly, they can do it here!”
