Breakfast is better with sunshine on it. The order is being filled for summer at The Sandbox Café Surf City, which just got approval for outdoor dining at its 1403 Long Beach Blvd. restaurant.

“It’s official!” co-owner Dana DiSalvio said March 26 as she picked up the approved outdoor seating permit from borough hall.

Dana and Vincent DiSalvio were the first to apply for outdoor dining after the Surf City Zoning Office announced that it would begin accepting applications for outdoor dining from food establishments as of March 25. Restrictions apply for applicants.

The DiSalvios are veterans at successful al fresco dining, as awards and waiting lines attest for their original enclave at 2604 Long Beach Blvd. in Ship Bottom. The Surf City plan will be done with landscape architecture and design by Bay Avenue Plant Co.

An additional 19 seats are approved for the front of the property, which is set back from the Boulevard.

“We will be creating our own slice of paradise right here in Surf City, just like we brought the magic to Ship Bottom,” Dana DiSalvio messaged to The SandPaper, confirming their plans.

“We will be working with Bay Avenue Plant Co. of Surf City to create an atmosphere similar to Ship Bottom – dining in the front with a 4-foot fence, olive trees, planters, awning,” she said, adding they want to keep a beachy feel to the result.

The embellishment is planned to be done by the start of the summer season.

“Our plans are to be ready for Memorial Day, if not sooner,” DiSalvio said.

Breakfast and lunch will be served. Meanwhile, the indoor restaurant, which seats 76 diners, opens again on March 28.

“Thank you, Mr. Mayor and members of the Land Use Board,” DiSalvio remarked, concluding, “We are super excited and can’t wait for this to finally happen.”

The restaurateurs are recipients of several awards, including: Trip Advisor Award of Excellence  2013-2014-2015-2016;  Best Breakfast Winner from Ocean Happenings.com 2014; and Best Deep Dish Pancake from Jersey Shore magazine 2014.

Surf City’s outdoor dining ordinance grants the approvals for a one-year time frame, with a review of rule compliance before an application is approved for the following year. Applications are being taken until May 15.
