Russo’s Italian Restaurant is expected to launch in mid-May on the corner of 14th Street and the Boulevard in Ship Bottom.

The highly visible site elevated above the street most recently housed Crabby Paddy’s restaurant. Now the Italian restaurant operators are bringing three decades of expertise from major metropolitan areas to their new Long Beach Island location.

The restaurant has been anticipated on social media. At the end of February, observers asked if Russo’s was still coming when they no longer saw the temporary banner on the outside of the building.

“The signs have been removed so the new ones can be put up,” explained building owner Patrick Moeller.

Restaurant owner and chef Vince Russo and his wife, Lori Russo, said they are excited to finally reside full-time on LBI. They have recently retired from their latest business, Vince and Tony’s Italian Restaurant of Royersford, Pa., in the suburbs of Philadelphia, after over a decade of ownership.

Passionately crafting and serving Italian cuisine for over 30 years, the couple said their venues have ranged from brick oven pizzerias to full-service Italian restaurants in the New York and Philadelphia regions.

“Chef Vince Russo takes great pride in serving past generations’ secret recipes as well as creating a warm, hospitable environment for everyone who enters their doors – just like his Great Nonna Russo did!” their preview for LBI said.

“Russo’s menu will be full of mouthwatering pasta, chicken, veal and seafood dishes, all made to order. In addition, the menu will consist of flatbreads, paninis and pizzas (emphasizing their signature Ozone Sicilian), all made with their hand-tossed dough and baked to perfection in their brick oven.”

Think homemade when it comes to dressings, sauces, pastas, mozzarella cheese, roasted peppers … and everything else, the Russos said.

“Russo’s will focus on fresh, vibrant flavors and to serve the most authentic homestyle dishes, away from home!”

The restaurant owners intend to welcome a fun night out with family, a quick lunchtime bite, a romantic dinner for two, as well as carryout or catering for an event. —M.S.
