Stafford Township — It’s that time of year, folks! Break out those ugly Christmas sweaters, or stop by your favorite retailer and buy one from the rack, and then head on over to the Stafford Township municipal complex on Saturday, Dec. 14, for the annual Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K.

The race is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start, and walkers and strollers are welcome. All proceeds from it benefit the St. Mary Academy PTA, which utilizes the funds to generate additional programs for students at the school. A 1-Mile Kids Run at 9 a.m. starts the family-friendly event.

Of course, the highlight of the event is not who wins – even though that is quite a big deal – but who sports the ugliest of ugly Christmas sweaters or the most outlandish or decorative getup. Prizes will be dealt to the best. And who knows? You may even see a knight dressed in one.

Advance registration is recommended by visiting raceforum.com/sweater. The registration fees are $35 per individual for the 5K and $10 per individual for the mile run. The Stafford municipal complex is located at 260 East Bay Ave. in Manahawkin. —D.B.
