Barnegat — Do you or someone you know have an adult family member with an intellectual or developmental disability? Or perhaps you need services, but don’t know how to get them.

You can get questions answered when the New Jersey Regional Family Support Planning Council of Ocean and Monmouth counties hosts a public forum and providers fair Wednesday, Oct. 10, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Barnegat Township Recreation Center in the municipal complex.

Council member Walt Fernandez of Barnegat Township said that in accordance with the 1993 Family Support Act, the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities established the Regional Family Support Planning Councils.

“They provide a venue for parents and family members of people with developmental disabilities to exchange knowledge and information about family support services,” he said. Members advocate for families and individuals with developmental disabilities at the local and state level on issues that directly impact their lives.

Fernandez said at the Barnegat event, there will be a presentation featuring an overview of the council, and then various vendors will be available to share information.

“The vendors will offer a wide variety of services,” he said. “It could be therapies, recreation and education opportunities, health services and more. These public forum and providers fairs are such great places for parents and family members of people with developmental disabilities to exchange knowledge and information about family support services.”
