‘ProGrasstination’ Kicks Off Bass River State Forest’s Concert Under the Stars Series July 13

By Pat Johnson | Jul 03, 2019

Bass River Township — Bass River State Forest is hosting three free concerts at the Lake Absegami beach breezeway at 7:30 p.m. in July starting with “ProGrasstination” on Saturday, July 13. ProGrasstination is a local bluegrass/old timey band that has played at the well-known Albert Music Hall in Waretown and other locations. This is its first time playing at New Jersey’s First State Forest.

Custom Blend Band will be performing on Saturday, July 20. Custom Blend Band consists of husband and wife Paul and Maria Petrone and best friend Joe Zavacki. The couple met Joe about 10 years ago at Albert Hall’s pickin’ shed in Waretown. They loved the way they got along, played music and sang together, so they decided to form a band. Their repertoire consists of a blend of bluegrass, classic country and light rock music. After all this time they are still having lots of fun and love to get out there to share their music.

On July 27, the Acoustic Musicians Guild will be performing starting at 7:45 p.m. The Acoustic Musicians Guild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the preservation of acoustic music. Formed in 1996 and based in New Jersey, it creates opportunities for members to perform their music for the public in various venues, i.e.: The Ocean County Library System, Ocean County Artists Guild, Albert Hall and several coffeehouses in the region.

The concerts are free, but donations to the bands are welcome.

Participants should bring something comfortable to sit on; insect repellent and a flashlight are recommended. The venue is ADA accessible. Heavy rain cancels. The forest entrance is at 762 Stage Rd. in Bass River Township. The food concession may be open during the concert; call ahead.
