Power at Any Price?

Jul 17, 2019

To the Editor:

This letter is directed to our local moderate Republicans, those who still have a heart and soul, and the ability to do critical thinking.

Paul Ryan’s new book is a scathing exposé about his true negative feelings toward Trump. Really, Mr. Ryan? What about all those smiling photo ops while you were speaker of the House and your sycophantic defense of Trump’s aberrant policies and behavior? The question at the time, and now in regard to other Republicans in Congress, is why, Mr. Speaker, didn’t you speak up when you had the power of the majority in Congress to actually influence and stop him?

Is this how Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham really feel? Why did you defend and pledge loyalty to Trump to protect your party’s power, instead of living up to your oath to preserve and protect the Constitution and the rest of America? Is it power at any price, even putting up with this idiot president who thinks colonists seized the airports during the Revolutionary War? Are you, Mr. Speaker, standing up now, protected behind the cover of a book, just to earn your millions in royalties?

Clearly, senior Republican leadership does not have the courage to speak “truth to power.” Congressman Amash seems to be the lone Republican in Congress who has the guts to stand up for what is right. And he is being vilified.

Do you all feel that way?
