Barnegat — The Barnegat Poets Society invites all readers, writers, and lovers of verse to an open mic night on Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Barnegat branch of the Ocean County Library. Event coordinator Susan Cummings said the evening will open with a brief homage to poet Billy Collins, who was U.S. poet laureate from 2001 to 2003. Attendees are welcome to bring their favorite Billy Collins poems to read and share during this portion of the evening.

“For our last open mic night we had people bring poems of Mary Oliver,” Cummings said. “It went over very well, so we thought we would focus on another poet for this event.”

The remainder of the event will welcome audience members to the microphone to read favorite or original poetry.

Time at the mic will depend on the number of audience members who want to read. Cummings said readers should prepare for a minimum time of three minutes, and a maximum of five minutes.
