Manahawkin — Philly Pretzel Factory is turning the twists out fresh every morning at 412 East Bay Ave. in Manahawkin, and will celebrate its grand opening from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 6. The franchisee has been in the new location since March; now that summer is here, the business has added an outdoor picnic area and expanded its customer base.

They had been in business as new owners of the Philly Pretzel Factory in a plaza on Route 9 North for a year before moving to the Bay Avenue stand-alone building four months ago.

“We have increased our sales by at least 15 percent,” manager Kerri Nugent-Velez said. “We have gotten a lot more orders, and there is a lot more traffic.” Also, many of the customers said they like the spot because there is plenty of room for parking.

At the grand opening, radio station 92.7 WOBM will broadcast live, and Sprinkles the Clown will be there; prizes and giveaways and ice cream concessions are planned. Newly announced attractions also include Big Barlow’s BBQ & Eatery; Ray’s NY Pizza and Manahawkin Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram.

The manager’s brother, Rob Nugent, is the owner. “He gave me this opportunity and put it in my hands and let me run with it. ... We’re having a good time meeting a lot of our repeat customers, and we strive for customer satisfaction.”

The grand opening is now so the operators had time to settle in, and because summer is a good time to invite anyone new to get acquainted.

Since March, a couple of features are new, such as delivery service and an outdoor seating area. They are booking parties for all ages for the outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas.

“We do offer wholesale accounts as well,” said Nugent-Velez, to businesses, sports teams, schools and the like.

Philly Pretzel Factory is the world’s largest Philly-style pretzel bakery, with well over 100 franchised locations. The freshly made dough is mixed every day, and every pretzel is hand-twisted.

Other than the famous soft pretzels in a few shapes and sizes, the menu lists specialties such as the Pretzel Dog, which is an all-beef Dietz & Watson hot dog wrapped in a Philly Pretzel with melted American cheese.

Really Philly is the Pretzel Cheesesteak, a Philly soft pretzel stuffed with Philly cheesesteak. The online menu also lists Spicy Pretzel Sausages and Pepperoni Pretzel Melts. On the sweet side are the Cinnamon Pretzel Twists.

Mustards and sauces listed on the website come in a flavorful variety: SuperHot Mustard; Spicy Brown Mustard; Original Yellow Mustard; Honey Mustard; Cheese Dip; Marinara Sauce; Cinnamon Dip; Philly Cream Cheese; Chocolate Dip; Buttercream Dip.

The Facebook page, Philly Pretzel Factory-Manahawkin, is a good site for updates. The phone number is 609-489-0009.
