One Dead as Car Leaves Roadway, Strikes Tree

A Little Egg Harbor Township resident was killed late Sunday night in a single-car motor vehicle crash on Warren Grove Road in Barnegat Township.

Police Chief Keith Germain said that 11:18 p.m., police responded to a report of the crash and, upon arrival at the scene, discovered that a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, Ender Lopez-Perez, 20, died in the crash.

Germain said the lone passenger, a 20-year-old male also from Little Egg Harbor, was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center as a precaution. He was evaluated and released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Barnegat Patrolman Ed Hayes.

A member of the Barnegat Volunteer Fire Co. at the scene was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for medical evaluation, Germain said.

Barnegat police were assisted by the Barnegat Volunteer First Aid Squad, Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company, Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI, Stafford Township Police Department, Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Co. and Little Egg Harbor Police Department.  —E.E.
