Beach Haven — Numerous Beach Haven emergency responders received lifesaving awards for the actions involving a man who suffered a heart attack Aug. 1. At  Monday’s borough council meeting, Police Capt. Tom Medel presented certificates to summer officers Kara Depczynski, Vincent Grosso and Mark Mathes; police officers John Mitchell and Michael Perkins; Michael Lawrence, beach patrol chief; Steve McNamara, beach patrol captain;  Meghan Marro, beach patrol first lieutenant; lifeguard Brooke Turner; Jack Casella, Beach Haven First Aid Squad captain; Shirley Harris, first aid squad lieutenant; and first aid EMTs Bob Weideman and Mike Kustrup.

Medel said the victim was a Surflight Theatre cast member who collapsed during a rehearsal.

“Responding to an emergency like this requires a lot of people,” he said. “Doing CPR can really tire you out.”
