No Hidden Agendas

To the Editor:

I am a taxpayer, business owner and grandparent of two children in the Long Beach Island Consolidated School District. I would like to thank the administration, along with the teachers and staff, for the excellent education they are receiving.

Both of my sons graduated from the school district, so I stay connected to what is going on at the schools. While attending many school board meetings, it is evident our biggest problem is consolidation. Some want it, some don’t, one school or two schools, this school or that school.

The most important question should always be how we educate these students. We need to elect people to the board of education who support the mission of the district. Those elected should be working transparently.

Over the last year I have seen less transparency from some of our board members. Taxpayers and parents are coming to meetings and practically begging the BOE to listen to them. Yet we have surprise motions and a total disregard for public opinion.

With the upcoming election when voting at the polls or by absentee ballot, I suggest that registered voters in Long Beach Township consider Brielle Hoffacker. She is committed to listening to the community and will work with the administration to move forward without any hidden agenda.

Barnegat Light representative Marilyn Wasilewski, who is also up for re-election, has always had our students’ educational needs as her number one priority. These are the people we need on the district’s board of education.
