Night of Comedy Friday to Benefit New Gretna Veterans Museum

Little Egg Harbor —

“The Battle to Remember II” will take place at Cuisine on the Green in Little Egg Harbor on Friday, Oct. 18.

It may sound like a professional wrestling promotion, but the only thing it has in common with pro grappling is that it is a joke – actually hundreds of jokes considering it is an evening of comedy featuring four comedians. The event is so-named because proceeds benefit the Veterans United Military Memorial Museum in New Gretna.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Admission includes dinner at 6 pm. The show will follow at 7:45. To order tickets in advance, call Jim at 609-513-6454.

The comics are Jeff Madanick, Deb Giacomoni, Zane Birnie and John Harris.

Madanick, who bills himself as The Doctor of Comedy, is 72 years old. He wasn’t an MD, but rather a salesman who, with retirement approaching, first stuck his toes into the rather rough sea of comedy when he was 59. Madanick, is a regular on the comedy circuit in the Sunshine State.

Birnie is at the other end of the comic spectrum, at least age-wise. He graduated from Rider University in 2018. But he’s been a comedian for several years, specializing in cracking on the fact he’s legally blind.

Harris and Giacomoni are regulars on the South Jersey circuit.

The Veterans United Military Memorial Museum is small but loaded with artifacts from World War I onward. One display case shows the basic U.S. military rifles from the Springfield 1903 rifle through the M16, introduced in 1964. Other eclectic items include a WWI field phone, a military field barber’s kit, chaplain’s kits (both Christian and Jewish), a Cold War room filled with survival crackers and an ancient can of “ham chunks,” and an assortment of mines, tank shells, a bazooka and even a FIM-43 surface-to-air missile system.

The museum is located just south and across Route 9 from the famous “Renault Wine Bottle,” with a suggested donation of only $7 for adults, $4 for those 12 to 18 years of age, $3 for kids 3 to 11 and free for toddlers younger than 3.

Call the museum at 609-513-6454 to in inquire about winter hours.  —R.M.
