Beach Haven — Thursday, Sept. 19 will be a special day for the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Co. Early that evening, its new tower truck is expected to arrive after being manufactured by Spartan Motors in Nebraska.

Matt Letts, fire company captain, said the truck is equipped with a 100-foot ladder and has pumping capabilities of 2,000 gallons per minute. The truck cost $1.2 million and payment is shared equally by Long Beach Township, Beach Haven and the company.

“It is replacing a snorkel truck, which we’ve had since 1992,” Letts said.

The company will unveil the truck at a parade and housing ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 5, beginning at noon at the Acme. The supermarket is near the north border of the fire company’s coverage area in the township.

“From there we go all through the township, Beach Haven and then to the end of the Island in Holgate,” Letts said.

Following the parade, the company will host a block party at Veterans Memorial Park, running until 8 p.m. Admission is free. Beer, wine, hamburgers, hot dogs along with mugs, T-shirts and sweat shirts will be sold.  —E.E.
