Tuckerton/Little Egg Harbor Leader

New Director Takes Helm at Church’s Center for Healing and Wholeness

Apr 05, 2019

During a March 24 service, the Tuckerton United Methodist Church recognized the achievements of Mary R. Roberts, outgoing executive director of the Center for Healing and Wholeness.

The Rev. Jason Rios led the service that also celebrated the center’s 25th year. Among the attendees were the center’s founder, the Rev. Edward Carll, and incoming Executive Director Victoria Eddy.

The center has a long history of offering workshops, support groups and counseling to the surrounding community. Under the directorship of Roberts, psycho-educational support groups were offered for new mothers, parents, and grandparents raising grandchildren. Other groups offered meditation, a spiritual 12-step recovery program, and help for those dealing with grief or chronic pain, as well as victims of Superstorm Sandy.

The center sponsored an anti-drug assembly for Pinelands High School and Middle School, as well as an evening program for parents. An informational presentation on postpartum depression was offered to local clergy with literature disseminated for their congregants. Community surveys, monthly mental health articles in “The Lamplighter,” and helping with the church’s Mission Run are some of the ways the center continued the vision of Carll.

Eddy, under the guidance of Rios, has already set the wheels in motion to continue “to provide counseling, workshops, support groups and community information to help all people create a mind, body and spirit connection.” For further information, call 609-296-8300.
