Miniature Golf Enthusiasts, Can You Beat Biggy?

By DAVID BIGGY | Jun 05, 2019

Surf City — Summer fun on Long Beach Island is coming down the pike in a couple of weeks, but while you’re thinking about chilling on the beach, climbing Barnegat Lighthouse or zipping down a water slide at Thundering Surf, there’s a big question you might want to ask yourself: Can You Beat Biggy?

Starting with the June 19 issue, and publishing each week though Sept. 4, SandPaper readers will be able to check out the feature “Can You Beat Biggy?” as part of Section 2. But the exciting part is some of you can challenge our resident miniature golf guru and writer, David Biggy, to be included in this weekly feature – and we may even throw in a cool SandPaper T-shirt for anybody who beats him.

So, here’s your chance! You want to try to beat Biggy? Here are the details:

Each week, two challengers will be selected to take on our master of the mini-golf links at one of the 12 courses on the Island. Match time generally will be between 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, weather permitting. The play-date possibilities are as follows – June 12, 13, 14; June 19, 20, 21; June 26, 27, 28; July 3 or 5; July 10, 11, 12; July 17, 18, 19; July 24, 25, 26; July 31, Aug. 1 or 2; Aug. 7, 8, 9; Aug. 14, 15, 16; Aug. 21, 22, 23; and Aug. 28, 29, 30.

The courses are located at: Jen’s Links at LBI, Barnegat Light; Sandbar Golf, Surf City; Island Golf, Surf City; Flamingo Golf, Ship Bottom; The Sand Trap, Ship Bottom; Hartland Golf & Arcade, Ship Bottom; Mr. Tee’s Shark Island, North Beach Haven; Settler’s Mill Adventure Golf, Beach Haven; and Mr. Tee’s Putt and Play, Beach Haven.

Biggy will schedule challengers in pairs. So, maybe you’re a father-son, mother-daughter, brother-sister, grandfather-grandson combination, or maybe you’re best friends or sailing buddies, or an individual who needs to partner up with somebody – it’s all good. But the minimum age requirement to play is 12 years old, and anybody younger than 17 must be partnered with an adult. There will be no charge to play – just show up and enjoy! – but you must be willing to be photographed and written about, or be part of possible live streams or videos for SandPaper social media channels.

What do you need to do to get on Biggy’s schedule, you ask? It’s easy. Take a moment right now to email him at biggy@thesandpaper.net, with the following: the first and last name(s) and age(s) of the challenger(s), a contact phone number, where you’re from, your preference of play date (check the list above), and a brief statement (a sentence or two) on why you believe you can beat Biggy.

If you’re selected to play, David will contact you to finalize a location and date, and then he’ll see you there!
